About Shillong College

Established on August 15, 1956, Shillong College began its journey with a handful of students at Jail Road Boys High School. Founded by Shri Sudhindra Chandra Datta, a Mathematics Lecturer from St. Anthony’s College, it was initially affiliated with Gauhati University before joining North Eastern Hill University in 1972. Our legacy is built on the dedication and sacrifice of countless individuals and organizations committed to education and community growth in Shillong and beyond.

Goals & Objectives

  • Provide quality education through meaningful academic and professional courses, prioritizing the needs of economically and socially disadvantaged students.
  • Equip graduates with knowledge and skills for employment and self-employment opportunities.

  • Operates under the Deficit Grants-in-Aid system, adhering to Meghalaya Government regulations.
  • Governed by a Governing Body, constituted per UGC and State Government guidelines.
  • Managed by the Shillong College Educational Society (Reg. No.: E.16(Rs)5/of 2006/71).
